City Strength HQ Novice I
City Strength HQ Novice I is a beginner-friendly powerlifting competition for first-time and novice competitors.
If you’re a newer lifter, this is the perfect opportunity to experience a proper powerlifting competition in a supportive environment without needing to join a federation.

Date: Sunday, 13 December 2026
Registration: $100
Maximum: 28 competitors, 1 session
Weigh-in: 8:00 AM
Lift-off: 10:00 AM
Estimated finish: 2:30-3:00 PM
Registration closes two weeks before the competition.
The lifting schedule, flights and further competition information will be provided shortly after registrations close.
Who Can Compete?
This competition is for first-time and beginner powerlifters.
If you regularly compete at sanctioned powerlifting competitions, this is not intended for you.
Juniors, Open and Masters lifters are welcome.
No Federation Membership Required
City Strength HQ Novice I is not sanctioned by a powerlifting federation.
You do not need to be a member of a federation to compete.
There is also no equipment check-in.
Simply register, turn up, weigh-in and enjoy the day!

The competition will follow the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) Technical Rule Book, including:
Squat, bench press and deadlift commands
Order of competition
Technical rules
Attempt procedures
This gives you the experience of a proper powerlifting competition without the requirements of competing at a sanctioned event.
FREE - Competing in Powerlifting Workshop
All competitors receive free attendance to the Competing in Powerlifting Workshop at City Strength HQ.

This workshop is designed specifically to prepare you for competition day and will cover everything you need to know about competing in powerlifting.
You'll learn about:
How a powerlifting competition works
Competition rules and commands
How attempts work
What to expect on competition day
Practical training with the competition commands
How to approach your first competition
The workshop will also include a 60-minute practical training session under the guidance of Meet Director and Powerlifting Coach Kelvin Tran, where you'll be able to practise competing with the commands and procedures you'll experience on the day.
If you've never competed before, this workshop is designed to make sure you walk onto the platform on 13 December feeling prepared and confident.
Weight Classes & Age Categories
When registering, you'll select your weight class and age category.
If you're unsure or your bodyweight changes, this can be changed at any time, including on competition day.
Your official weight class will be determined by your weigh-in weight on the day.
These selections are primarily used to help us organise the lifting schedule.
